Maysan – Ein Network Enhances Women’s Role in Elections through Specialized Training

Ein Network for Election and Democracy Monitoring, in cooperation with the Women’s Empowerment Department in Maysan, the Subcommittee for Women’s Political Participation, and the National Women’s Directorate, organized a two-day training (16–17 August) to strengthen women’s participation in elections.

The training addressed key topics such as the importance of women’s political engagement, combating hate speech, electoral protection, and electoral systems and mechanisms. The sessions also included discussions on developing a political roadmap to increase women’s representation, particularly in southern governorates.

The event was attended by representatives from the Deputy Governor’s Office, the Independent High Electoral Commission, the National Security Advisory, and the University of Maysan.

This activity is part of the project “Democracy and Transparency – Enabling Civic Participation and Freedom of Media”, funded by the European Union in partnership with Norwegian People’s Aid. It reflects Ayin Network’s ongoing efforts, alongside the Election Monitoring Coalition, to strengthen women’s role in Iraq’s democratic process.
