Ein Network Organizes an Awareness Forum for Journalists in Samawah
The Ein Network for Election and Democracy Monitoring organized an awareness forum for journalists in Samawah Governorate on August 23. This forum is part of the project "Democracy and Transparency: Empowering Civic Participation and Media Freedom", in partnership with the Tamuz and Shams networks, supported by the European Union, and in collaboration with the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA).
The forum discussed several key topics, most notably the stereotypes associated with elections and the importance of educating citizens on the significance of electoral participation, considering it a pivotal step in supporting democracy and strengthening citizens’ rights to make free choices.
The forum also focused on the role of journalists in conveying information objectively and transparently, and in combating rumors and misleading news that could affect the electoral process. Discussions included strategies for awareness-raising media and how to craft media messages in ways that encourage civic participation and build trust between citizens and electoral institutions.
The forum aims to develop journalists’ skills and empower them to perform their oversight and awareness roles effectively, contributing to the transparency and integrity of upcoming elections.
