Diyala – Tuesday, 3 June 2025
EIN Network for Election Monitoring and Democracy organized a dialogue forum for religious leaders and tribal sheikhs in Diyala Governorate. The forum was held at the Directorate of Youth and Sports Hall as part of the “Democracy and Transparency: Empowering Civic Engagement and Media Freedom” project, implemented by EIN in partnership with Shams Network and Tammuz Organization, with support from the European Union.
This forum is part of the activities of the Electoral Awareness Forum / Subcommittee in Diyala Governorate and aims to promote participation in the electoral process, raise awareness of the procedures of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) regarding the update of voters' biometric data, and ensure broad, free, and fair participation.
The forum was attended by a distinguished group of religious leaders from various sects and tribal sheikhs from diverse communities, reflecting the region’s social fabric. Representatives of IHEC provided a comprehensive presentation on the biometric update process, the issuance of voter cards, and the importance of active participation in elections as a democratic tool.
This forum is part of a broader series of awareness activities implemented by EIN across several Iraqi governorates, as part of its efforts to promote electoral culture and support meaningful civic participation.
