EIN Network Organizes Electoral Awareness Forum for Journalists and Media Representatives in Nineveh

The EIN Network for Election Monitoring and Democracy, in cooperation with the Shams Network and the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate – Nineveh Branch, and in coordination with the Nineveh Electoral Office, organized an electoral awareness forum for journalists and media representatives, as part of the activities of the project "Democracy and Transparency: Empowering Civic Engagement and Media Freedom."


The forum was held at the "My City" Hall on the left side of Mosul and saw active participation from representatives of television, radio, and print media, along with media officers from political parties and security forces.


The forum began with a presentation by the Head of the Media and Public Communication Division at the Electoral Commission, who reviewed the key activities of the Nineveh Electoral Office. He emphasized the importance of creating a competitive electoral environment that fosters active participation, affirming that “participation is change.”


Mr. Noufal Al-Rawi, Head of the Journalists Syndicate in Nineveh, expressed the Syndicate’s continued support for the Commission’s efforts, stressing the importance of collaboration to enhance electoral awareness and encourage broad participation in the upcoming elections.


Mr. Yasser Al-Hamdani, representing the Shams Network, provided an overview of the voter education project in Nineveh and other regions. He presented data on the number of beneficiaries and phases of implementation, highlighting the essential role of media in promoting electoral culture among citizens.


The forum featured in-depth presentations by officials from the Electoral Commission. The representative of the Legal Division discussed the current electoral laws, mechanisms for handling complaints, and procedures for addressing violations. The Training Division representative explained the voter register update process, the categories eligible for updating, the required documents, and the steps to take in case of a lost biometric card. The Political Parties and Candidates Division representative gave a detailed explanation of the electronic registration system, the candidacy requirements, and the legal and financial obligations for those wishing to participate in the 2025 elections.


The forum concluded with a visual presentation by the Electoral Support Committee on the participation of women in elections and the mechanism for distributing the women’s quota within candidate lists, using electronic display tools (Data Show).


The forum witnessed strong engagement from the attendees, who contributed valuable questions and suggestions that support the electoral process and promote a culture of civic participation, especially in the area of voter education and awareness.
