EIN Network Organizes Electoral Awareness Forum for Journalists in Karbala as Part of the “Democracy and Transparency” Project

As part of its efforts to promote electoral awareness and support professional journalism, the EIN Network for Election Monitoring and Democracy organized an Electoral Awareness Forum for Journalists in Karbala Governorate. The forum was held within the framework of the “Democracy and Transparency: Empowering Civic Participation and Media Freedom” project, implemented in partnership with the Tammuz and Shams Networks, and supported by the European Union.
The event took place at the hall of the Iraqi Engineers Syndicate – Karbala Branch, in cooperation with the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), and was attended by a number of journalists and media professionals from various local outlets.
The forum opened with a welcoming speech delivered by the EIN Network for Election Monitoring and Democracy, emphasizing the pivotal role of media in the current period—particularly in spreading the culture of electoral participation, encouraging citizens to update their voter registration information, and strengthening public trust in the institutions responsible for organizing elections.
The event included remarks and contributions from representatives of the IHEC in Karbala, the Iraqi Engineers Syndicate – Karbala Branch, and the Media and Communications Commission – Middle Euphrates Office, all of whom highlighted the importance of media coordination in raising public awareness about the upcoming electoral process
The forum’s interactive sessions addressed challenges related to updating the voter register, ways to combat misinformation, and the importance of promoting transparency in media coverage of the elections.
The event concluded with an open discussion, during which journalists exchanged perspectives on their responsibilities during the electoral period, affirming their commitment to professional and factual reporting and contributing to a fair and inclusive electoral environment
