EIN, Tammuz, and Shams Networks Discuss Cooperation Mechanisms with the Electoral Commission in Babylon as Part of the “Democracy and Transparency” Project

As part of the implementation of the "Democracy and Transparency: Enhancing Civic Engagement and Media Freedom" project, a delegation from the election monitoring networks visited the office of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) in Babylon Province on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. The delegation included Mr. Thaer Abdul Jabbar, Coordinator of EIN Network, Ms. Nawres Hussein, Coordinator of Tammuz Network, and Mr. Firas Nadhim, Coordinator of Shams Network.
Two coordination meetings were held during the visit. The first was an extended session with Mr. Amir Hassan Jihad, Head of the Media and Public Communication Division, where the participants discussed the networks’ operational mechanisms, implementation timelines, and the facilitation measures that IHEC could provide.
The second meeting was held with Mr. Maytham Hashem Hussein, Deputy Director for Technical Affairs, during which the parties agreed on mechanisms for joint cooperation between the Commission and the three networks, as well as on the scheduling of electoral awareness forums in the governorate.
The Babylon IHEC office expressed its full readiness to cooperate and provide the necessary support to ensure the success of the project and to enhance transparency and civic participation in the electoral process.
The meeting was covered by Al-Furatain Satellite Channel – Babylon Office, reflecting the media's interest in documenting the interaction between the Commission and civil society organizations in support of the democratic process.
