A Delegation from the Alliance of National Networks and Organizations Participates in a High-Level Meeting with the Independent High Electora Commission

A group of representatives from the Alliance of National Networks and Organizations Monitoring Elections in Iraq participated in the opening session of a specialized workshop organized by the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), entitled:” Operational Timeline Requirements for the Iraqi Council of Representatives Elections 2025."
The delegation included Mr. Hoger Chato, Ms. Vian Sheikh Ali, Dr. Abed Ali, Ms. Heidi Sarkar, and Mr. Dashti Sadiq.
Their participation came at the outset of the workshop, which was attended by the Chief Commissioner Judge Omar Ahmed Mohammed, members of the Board of Commissioners, the Head of the Electoral Administration Judge Amer Al-Husseini, the Secretary-General of the Commission, the Deputies of the Head of Electoral Administration for Technical and Administrative Affairs, the Assistant Secretary-General, Directors of the National Office and Electoral Offices, as well as representatives from the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and civil society organizations.
In his opening remarks, the Chief Commissioner welcomed the attendees and praised their efforts in preparing for the upcoming parliamentary elections. He emphasized the Commission’s commitment to holding fair and transparent elections that comply with international standards, as achieved in previous electoral cycles, by identifying and addressing all necessary operational needs. He also welcomed the presence of the Alliance delegation as part of the workshop.
Judge Amer Al-Husseini stated that the workshop falls within the Commission’s broader efforts to review and discuss preparations for the upcoming elections, aiming to finalize recommendations for the operational timeline.
The workshop also included a presentation of the upgraded electronic verification device to be used in the elections, testing of the biometric camera for facial recognition, and discussion of various technical and administrative components of the operational plan.
At the conclusion of the workshop, representatives of the Alliance delivered a presentation outlining their monitoring and voter awareness plan for the upcoming 2025 parliamentary elections. This plan is part of the project:
"Democracy and Transparency: Empowering Civic Engagement and Media Freedom," funded by the European Union Delegation to Iraq.
